Carbon
Making the difference between life and death
What is it?
A slim, lightweight yet strong piece of silicon carbide which stops high velocity assault rifle bullets.
How does it work?
We’ve developed a carbon material that redirects and removes energy from flying bullets allowing the composite backing of our body armour to stop them entirely before causing injury.
Our proprietary process bonds silicon carbide grain with special additives and binders in a heat intensive process known as sintering. As the furnace temperature reaches 2,204˚C the material shrinks, changes grain structure, loses weight and gains strength and hardness. It can then be machined and shaped. It’s a vital component in SAPI (small arms protective insert) body armour, manufactured by our customers. Each finished product is capable of stopping three direct hits before it needs replacing.
Who uses it?
We’ve delivered well over 100,000 potentially life saving plates so far, and they’re in use making the difference between life and death all over the world.
