Carbon

Carbon and graphite materials have unique properties. They are electrically conductive and self-lubricating, are resistant to heat and corrosion, have high compressive strength, can be produced in highly pure forms and are non-toxic. These properties ensure that our products can meet specific and specialist requirements in thousands of demanding applications, from trains to body armour and from electronics to aerospace.

  • Armour: silicon carbide and alumina based composites are used in body armour, aircraft and vehicle armour.
  • Mechanical seals and bearings: a range of carbon, silicon carbide, composites and resin/metallic impregnation technology providing bearing and seals solutions to the chemical processing and fluid pumping industries.
  • Carbon brushes: various types for use in transferring electrical current from a moving to a stationary point in an electrical circuit.
  • Brush holders: a wide range of different types including traction, transit and industrial holders, and custom-made holders for special applications.
  • Commutators: the interfaces or switches between a carbon brush and a rotating machine that convert current enabling motors or generators to operate.
  • Collectors: various types including pantographs, third rail shoes, trolley bus inserts and crane collectors that transfer electrical current from a rail, wire or other conductive track.
  • Specialty graphite: range includes a variety of state-of-the-art materials technology including high precision, custom-machined products for use in numerous industrial processes, tailored to customer requirements including product purity, density, permeability, grade and size.
  • Other carbon component products: slip rings; a wide range of metal / resin products; motor diagnostic products; mechanical components.
