Molten Metal Systems
Molten Metal Systems offers three types of products: crucibles, foundry products and furnaces. Our unique advantage of designing and manufacturing both furnace and crucible means that the two work together to maximise energy efficiency and prolong crucible life. Our expertise in crucibles dates from 1856, when the company was founded, and our brands are famous throughout the world.
Crucibles
A crucible is a container used to melt, hold and carry metals and alloys within a furnace. They are made, using various techniques, from special blends of materials to provide durability, long life, good melt speed and energy efficiency under arduous conditions. We make two types of crucible:
- Pressed and roller-formed SIC crucibles made from silicon carbide and flake graphite. Brands include Ultramelt (ISO pressed SIC crucible); ISO-Alustar, Syncarb (ISO pressed clay graphite crucible); Excel E, Excel, Himelt, Stabil, Starrbide (roller-formed SIC crucible).
- Rib-formed, plastic moulded and iso-static pressed crucibles made from clay and flake graphite. Brands include Grafit, Indux, Salamander Super.
Foundry products
We manufacture a complete range of foundry consumables from the finest materials. They are used in applications such as temperature measurement, cleaning molten metal, control of chemical composition, degassing and molten metal management.
- Aluminium titanate dosing tubes and riser stalks
- Degassing tubes
- Ladle bowls
- Launders
- Plungers and other foundry tools
- Pyrometer sheaths
Furnaces
We have a long history of furnace design and manufacture with over 4,000 furnaces installed worldwide.
- Fuel-fired (gas or oil) furnaces
- Electric furnaces
- Dual energy furnaces
- Electric ladles
