Keeping hearts beating
What is it?
A sophisticated ceramic-to-metal seal assembly (‘feed-through’) made from metal components and high purity alumina ceramic that carries the wire leads from the ‘engine room’ of a pacemaker to the heart. The leads carry the tiny electrical impulses to the heart and relay information about the heart’s electrical activity back to the pacemaker.
How does it work?
Our feed-through is biocompatible and corrosion resistant and has superior electrical properties. With space at a premium, a saving of half a millimetre can improve performance, and we have the technology to make the tiniest feed-throughs.
Who uses it?
We apply our design skills and technical knowledge to build custom-made pacemaker parts for many of the world’s leading manufacturers. Our sophisticated processes also allow for cost-competitive manufacturing though consistent and repeatable methods.
And the future?
Recent research from the US suggests that pacemakers can provide more cost-effective treatment for heart problems than medication. Our expertise in ceramic-to-metal assemblies means we are well placed to take advantage of this potentially developing market.
